BIBLE STUDY
Step 1
Set a goal for yourself to read through the Bible in a year.
Step 2
Find a time during the day where you can set aside 15 minutes to
read. For some that maybe in the morning, others during a lunch
break, or some at night before going to bed.
Step 3
Read 4 chapters a day. You can do 3 in the Old Testament and 1 in
the New Testament. You can either start at the beginning or read in a
random order. Just make sure you keep track so that you'll know when
you have read all 66 books of the Bible.
Be consistent. By reading a little each day you will be surprised how
much you can read in a year. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at
a time.
Another easy way to study your bible. Pick a verse or a passage and ask yourself these
questions.
As you meditate on a passage of Scripture, is there:
A sin I should keep away from?
A promise I can call my own?
A command for me to obey?
A blessing I can enjoy?
A failure from which I can learn?
A victory for me to win?
A new thought about God, the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Satan, man?
A truth in this passage that has greatly affected me?
your eyes to the treasures of the bible. It is called paraphrasing. Only take a few minutes.
Paraphrase- All you have to do is put a verse or passage in your own words without changing the
meaning.
STEP 1- Pray for the Lord to speak to you through his word.
STEP 2- Get your bible, a piece of paper, pencil, and a dictionary. (A Strong’s is excellent if you
have one.)
STEP 3- Pick one or two of your favorite verses in the bible.
STEP 5- Listen to the still small voice of the Lord.
EXAMPLE:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
PARAPHRASE
John 3:16 The Father in heaven above felt such an overwhelming delight for everything created
here below that he presented his most precious Son which is one of a kind, so that all that would
trust in him should not die, but obtain an existence that will go on for eternity.
THE IMPORTANCE OF BIBLE STUDY
Regular Bible reading and study is essential for our Christian growth.
We speak to the Lord through prayer. The Lord speaks to us through his word.
|
First, read the verse or passage several times emphasizing different words. For example: For
God so loved the world..., For God so loved the world..., For God so loved the world, etc. I
suggest saying it out loud too. Many of us are auditory learners. One of our sons is and this is
how we had him study everything - reading it out loud.
Next, write it. How many times did our spelling teacher have us write our words over and over?
Yes, she had a reason for doing that; it stimulated our memory. Write the verse several times,
and then write some more on index cards or sticky notes; place these in places you see
everyday such as on the refrigerator, mirror, on the computer monitor, etc.
Finally, try to visualize the verse. Create pictures in your mind for key words. For example: For
God (picture Him) so loved (a heart) the world (the earth)...etc.
Once we've committed a verse to memory - DON'T QUIT! Review, review, review!
